Thank you for taking the time to find out more about the United Methodist Church of Gilroy and our community.  The United Methodist Church of Gilroy was established in Gilroy, CA in 1853. We hope that after you look through our website and attend a worship, you will consider becoming a more active part of our growing community of faith.

Lead by Pastor Hwapyoung Kang,  the United Methodist Church of Gilroy offers many ministries for people of all ages and walks of life who are looking to strengthen their relationship with Christ. We offer ministries in Men’s Ministry, Small Groups, Women’s Ministry, etc.

As United Methodists, we have an obligation to bear a faithful Christian witness to Jesus Christ, the living reality at the center of the Church’s life and witness. To fulfill this obligation, we reflect critically on our biblical and theological inheritance, striving to express faithfully the witness we make in our own time.

Two considerations are central to this endeavor: the sources from which we derive our theological affirmations and the criteria by which we assess the adequacy of our understanding and witness.

The founder of the Methodist movement; John Wesley, believed that the living core of the Christian faith was revealed in Scripture, illumined by tradition, vivified in personal experience, and confirmed by reason.

The Ministry of All Christians

The mission of the Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Local churches provide the most significant arena through which disciple-making occurs.

We accomplish this by proclaiming the good news of God’s grace and by exemplifying Jesus’ command to love God and neighbor, thus seeking the fulfillment of God’s reign and realm in the world. The fulfillment of God’s reign and realm in the world is the vision Scripture holds before us. The United Methodist Church affirms that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Savior of the world, and the Lord of all. As we make disciples, we respect persons of all religious faiths and we defend religious freedom for all persons. Jesus’ words in Matthew provide the Church with our mission: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you” (28:19-20), and “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. … And you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (22:37, 39).
